Installation and Getting Started

Installation and Getting Started

Overview

This article contains information to help ensure proper installation and configuration of your environment, but most importantly, ensure that COZYROC SSIS+ Suite will work with the installed components (e.g., SQL Server, SSDT).  Although SSDT is downward compatible, not every SQL Server version is supported.  In order to avoid compatibility issues, install the COZYROC SSIS+ Suite recommended for the SSDT version.

The compatibility chart below will guide you in determining, which component version is compatible with the COZYROC SSIS+ Suite . We strongly recommend that you install the compatible versions of the software noted in the chart before you install the COZYROC SSIS+ Suite. The chart includes links to versions of SSDT to make it easy to download and install a compatible version for the version of SQL Server and SSIS+ you will be running.

In most cases, your best bet will be to use the latest version of the COZYROC SSIS+ Suite. It is backwards-compatible with all versions of SQL Server.

It is important to be aware that, even if you install a compatible version of Visual Studio, automatic updates could install an incompatible version of Visual Studio in the future. Therefore, we highly recommend that you turn off automatic updates for all software that can create compatibility issues.

It is also mandatory that you install the COZYROC SSIS+ Suite on any machines where you plan to develop, execute, and/or schedule the execution of SSIS packages that contain COZYROC SSIS+ components.  We also recommend that you only install one version of SSDT on the server where you design or run packages.

NOTE: when you use COZYROC SSIS+ components in your SSIS packages, no sensitive information will ever be sent to COZYROC for any reason. In SSIS+ 1.9, we have introduced a telemetry module to collect information about product usage that will assist us in making product improvements. During installation, you are asked whether you would like to allow us to collect this information or not. We will never collect this information without your permission.

Compatibility Charts

Before installing the COZYROC SSIS+ Suite , please check below for its compatibility with SQL Server, Visual Studio and SSDT. Installing software that is compatible with the SSIS+ Suite before you begin will ensure a much smoother and more rewarding experience, free from unnecessary delays.

Note that the SSIS+ Suite will need to be installed on any machines where you will be designing SSIS packages that use COZYROC SSIS+ components. It will also need to be installed on any Servers where you plan to schedule and execute SSIS packages that contain SSIS+ components.

* The 4.4 version of SQL Server Integration Services Project extension is only compatible with COZYROC 2.1.100.3064 and above. If you are on prior versions of SSIS+ with VS2019 project extensions then you can only use up to 3.16 version of the extension. 3.16 is the last SSDT version built specific for SQL Server 2019. If you are using SQL Server 2022, then you will need to move to 4.4 and COZYROC 2.1.100.3064 or above.

** For VIsual Studio 2022, you should use the suggested version of SQL Server Integration Services Projects extension on our chart above. SQL Server 2016 TargetServerVersion was introduced only by Microsoft in version 1.20 of SQL Server Integration Services Projects extension. SQL Server 2016 TargetServerVersion was introduced in COZYROC version 2.2.1.3550. Currently,1.3.2 SSDT Addon has been verified to work fine with Visual Studio 2022 version 17.8.6 (it's recommended not to use older versions. due to some instability issues, e.g. in v17.5.5 ).

Note: Before installing   SSDT for Visual Studio 2017 (15.9.1) , uninstall Analysis Services Projects and Reporting Services Projects extensions if they are already installed, and close all VS instances. All release notes related to SSDT for SQL Server 2017 can be found at this link

For recommended SSDT versions for use with Data Flow Task Plus, please see the following link .

Installation

To get started, you will need to fill in and submit the Download form from the Download page. Afterward, you will be sent an email with a link to the page where you can access and/or download the COZYROC SSIS+ Suite.

Note: all versions of the SSIS+ Suite are backwards-compatible, so it is not necessary to run multiple versions of the COZYROC SSIS+ Suite on the same server and, in fact, it will not work.

There are special considerations if you want to run the COZYROC SSIS+ Suite on Azure Data Factory (ADF) .  Please revie w   here  and here for a description of what you will need to know to get the COZYROC SSIS+ Suite running on ADF.

Post Installation

When you open the SSIS toolbox in Visual Studio, all the COZYROC components will show up in the toolbox.  It is no longer necessary to use “Choose Toolbox Items” as shown in some of COZYROC’s older videos because, as of the 2012 version of Visual Studio, there is no need to import the extensions to SSIS. When you run the COZYROC installer package file, the extensions are imported and automatically show up in the SSIS Toolbox.

If some or all of the COZYROC SSIS+ components are missing from the Toolbox, re-check the compatibility charts; it is highly likely that you have an incompatible version of SSDT or Visual Studio installed.

It is worth mentioning that users have encountered other errors due to improper COZYROC license activation.  Please see the Licensing page for a complete description of how to successfully activate your license.  It provides information about registry keys and permissions that must be set properly.

Note: if you are using SSIS Catalog deployment, you will need to deploy the license key for COZYROC SSIS+ Suite on the server where the catalog is stored to properly license the COZYROC SSIS+ Suite and execute your packages.

Starting in late 2018, you must manually select the  TargetServerVersion  to use for your packages in Visual Studio.  Be sure to set this for the version of SQL Server where you’ll be executing your packages.

If you are going to be using a proxy account to execute your packages under the SQL Server Job Agent, then you should ensure that the proxy account has permissions to access certain folders and registry keys. See the KB articles below for specifics about the folder and registry keys.

Users sometimes have difficulties due to the settings of other server parameters that are unrelated to the COZYROC SSIS+ Suite.  For example, if you are using a COZYROC component that requires a password to connect to a service or a server and your Package Protection Level is set to " DontSaveSensitive ”, then the password will not be saved with the package and the package will fail to connect.  Please see the KB articles below for further information about these settings and how to get things working with the setting you choose.

Upgrading/Migration

Whenever you upgrade your version of the COZYROC SSIS+ Suite or SQL Server, check the compatibility charts before installing the new version.  It is also recommended that you install the compatible version of SSDT and Visual Studio before installing the new version of the COZYROC SSIS+ Suite.  Be sure to uninstall the old version prior to installing the newer version.

Note: if you are performing an upgrade on an existing server, there is no need to reset your license record.  However, if the versions of the existing installed components have changed (e.g., SQL Server), you will need to reset your License record.  You will find step-by-step instructions describing how to reset your License record on the Licensing page .

Likewise, whenever you migrate the COZYROC SSIS+ Suite to a different server, be sure to check the compatibility charts.  Install compatible versions of SSDT and Visual Studio before installing the SSIS+ Suite on the new server.

It is not necessary to edit, rebuild or redeploy packages created in the older version of SSIS+ unless you are upgrading from SSIS+ versions prior to 1.7 SR-2.

Note: an intermediate upgrade is required in order to upgrade from a version of the COZYROC SSIS+ Suite older than 1.7 SR-2 to a newer version. See the KB article below in this section.

As previously mentioned, it is not possible to run multiple versions of the COZYROC SSIS+ Suite on the same server, even during an upgrade.  If the COZYROC SSIS+ Suite had that capability, it would make upgrades more difficult because each package would have to be updated to indicate the version of the COZYROC SSIS+ Suite to use. Our recommendation is to thoroughly test your packages with the newer versions of the COZYROC SSIS+ Suite before upgrading your production environment.

All versions of the COZYROC SSIS+ Suite are backwards compatible, so it is not necessary to run multiple versions of SSIS+ on the same server and it will not work if you try to install multiple versions.

Tools

Troubleshooting problems related to communications with online services (e.g., services that use REST, SOAP or HTTPS web requests) requires the use of external tools.  We recommend the use of Fiddler for these types of problems.  Instructions explaining how to use Fiddler to trace exchanges between your SSIS packages and these services can be found in the KB article below.  It will also explain how to create trace files that can be provided to the COZYROC support team so that they can assist you with troubleshooting.
